Francesco Montresor oens the Ottella estate in San Benedetto di Lugana, on the southern shores of Lake Garda. Of course the Lugana plays a leading role in the portfolio of Ottella, but also very good reds from the grape varieties Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Corvina, Molinara and Rondinella are cultivated on approximately 40 hectares. Today, Ottella is one of the most renowned producers in the region and is represented on many winelists of italien first-class restaurants. Through the worldwide popularity of the Lugana, today a large part of the harvest is exported all over the world.
The Trebbiano di Lugana, also called "Turbiana" by locals, is by no means related to other Trebbiano varieties. At Ottella, this variety produces structured and lively wines with depth, which can also be stored for some time. Although the production area of Lugana is mostly in Lombardy, the wine is usually classified as a Veneto wine. The Lugana municipalities Sirmione, Desenzano, Lonato and Pozzolengo are part of Lombardy, only Peschiera del Garda belongs to Veneto.
