In the mid-1980s, Chantal and Jean Berthet-Bondet founded their winery in Château-Chalon, in the French Jura. Daughter Hélene, studied oenologist, joined them in 2013 and has been managing the estate since 2018. The 15 hectares of vines have been cultivated organically since 2010, with Savagnin and Chardonnay, 6 ha each, playing the main role, plus 3 hectares of traditional red grape varieties Trousseau, Poulsard and Pinot Noir. 4.5 hectares are in the AOP Château-Chalon, 10.5 hectares in the AOP Côtes du Jura. The yields are very low at 35 hl / ha, which promotes the density of the wines.
Berthet-Bondet produces classic Jura wines of the highest quality, which are also very long-lived. This does not only apply to the almost indestructible Vin Jaune and Vin de Paille. In addition, these wines are very good accompaniments to meals. They go well with many dishes, especially of course with the famous Jura cheese Comté.
