The Brancaia No 2 comes from the Maremma vineyards of the Widmer family. It is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and matures in second-covered tonneaux (500L oak barrels). It belongs to the Maremma Toscana DOC, created in 2011 to give the wines of the Tuscan coast a denomination of origin appropriate to their quality. The No 2 has enriched the Brancaia portfolio since the 2015 vintage and is now certified organic.
The No 2 pleases with its ripe berry aromas (blackberry and black currant), supported by a delicate wood tone, plus there is also some eucalyptus and chocolate. On the palate it has a good extract, the intense fruit of the fragrance is reflected in the long finish, which is supported by soft tannins. Despite its class, this wine is pleasantly uncomplicated. Open up, have fun, whether young or mature.
An ideal partner for antipasti, salami, medium-flavoured cheeses and for all dishes with dark meat. Vinous.com writes: "The 2020 No. 2 is plump, juicy and absolutely delicious..." and rates this treat 92/100. With Parker ("a pure expression of Cabernet Sauvignon") and with James Suckling you are even at 93/100.
