The Wente Riva Range Chardonnay comes from a single vineyard in Arroyo Seco in Monterey/ California, recognized as one of the best regions for growing Chardonnay due to its relatively cool climate. It is still produced from the Chardonnay clones that the Wente family brought to California from Burgundy in the early 20th century.
90% of the Riva Ranch Chardonnay was fermented in barriques and aged for 10 months, 60% of these barrels were new and 40% second use. The wood comes from France and America. 10% was fermented in the tank to get freshness in the final wine. 2021 yielded a wine with creamy body and surprisingly fine texture, its vanilla, pineapple and spicy notes give aromatic complexity, the fullness and balance is delightful.
