The Chardonnay vom Kalk is the basic white wine Markus Altenburger, which immediately shows the precision with which this winery works. The vines grow on limestone and slate soils and are harvested by hand. The Chardonnay is fermented from lime in various containers, from concrete tanks to steel to wooden barrels. The subsequent aging takes place in baked oak barrels of various sizes. The addition of sulfur is minimal.
The crystal-clear nature of this beautiful Chardonnay with its aromatic, cool fruit aromas and salty minerality is extremely well developed. The delicate wood influence supports the fruit, but never dominates the wine. Characterful and inexpensive!
Falstaff magazine gives the 2022 vintage 92/100 points and writes: "Delicately clouded golden yellow, brassy reflections. Delicately herbal and spicy undertones of ripe apple fruit, candied orange zest, some lemon balm. Tight, white apple fruit, nutty touch, salty finish, well persistent , shows pleasant freshness in the aftertaste"
