The Schlossberg is in the municipality of Harxheim and is the top vineyard for Riesling at Werther Windisch. The harvest takes place here in several stages and only the optimally ripened berries are used for the Riesling Schlossberg. After fermentation, the wine is stored on the yeast in earthenware containers for six months. After bottling, Jens Windisch treats this top Riesling to another six months in the bottle before the wine goes on sale.
Despite the warm year, the Werther Windisch Schlossberg Riesling 2020 shows great freshness and elegance. The scent is reminiscent of damp stones after a summer rain and of freshly mown grass, hints of citrus and a hint of sage. It is always reserved, full of excitement and very fine. The firm and mineral style is pleasing on the palate, the wine is very long-lasting and has a nice bite in the aftertaste and is also very invigorating. It is so well balanced that it needs little or no supporting residual sweetness. That's how we like it!
Falstaff magazine awards 92+/100 to the 2020 vintage and writes: "Exciting fragrance with citrus fruit, grapefruit, peach and apricot, as well as herbal notes and wet stone. Citrus notes are present on the palate and a present acidity, demanding, but also with suppleness. Clear minerality, lingers on the palate for a long time."
