2018 was the first vintage of Pommard Clos de la Commaraine from the new owners who cultivate this premium vineyard biodynamically. This 3.75ha monopoly is one of the top three terroirs in Pommard, some even consider it worthy of Grand Cru. The wines are considered fragrant and generous, while being highly refined and balanced.

The new owners are stepping on the gas to turn this pearl into one of the best red Burgundies on the Côte de Beaune. Quote: "We have carried out in-depth studies to better understand the Clos de Commaraine terroir and produce great wines.

The first phase was an analysis of soil depths and types using electromagnetic resonance, which allowed us to create an initial map of the Clos by dividing it into eight subplots. For the first harvest of the Clos de la Commaraine, these eight sub-plots were harvested at different times and the wine from each plot was produced and aged separately. A second stage consisted in digging twenty trenches in the Clos to verify the first results of the electromagnetic resonance analysis and to improve the map of the Clos, which will help us to apply different wine production techniques in the different sub-plots up the Clos. The third stage was an analysis of the composition of the soil taken from the excavated trenches. The fourth phase will take place in spring 2019 and will be an analysis of the plant material that makes up the Clos, to see if it is in symbiosis with its terroir and if changes need to be made to the cultivation techniques to achieve the best possible match in terms of Soil and plant matter."

Now the once again grandiose 2020 vintage is available, one of the great vintages with great structure and plenty of extract, which will develop into a sought-after classic. Since the harvest was already low again, you should hurry.
