The top 2020 vintage of the Chablis Tete d'Or was aged in 25% oak barrel, because the extract and the juicy body of the wine were able to pack the relatively high proportion of oak well. Relatively so, because Chablis is traditionally used sparingly with the proportion of newer barrels. This Billaud-Simon cuvée comes from the estate's best Village plots in the village Fyé. For the Domaine Billaud-Simon, this wine is a kind of qualitative ambassador. It shows the heights that normal Chablis plots can reach if they are given the best possible care. Of course, in combination with the best conditions such as old, healthy vines and the know-how of a top company like Billaud-Simon.
Decanter magazine awards 92/100 for the Tete d'Or 2020 and writes: "Longer aged than the classic Chablis cuvée, with 25% matured in wood of different sizes. Plenty of weight and intensity from a selection of parcels just outside Montée de Tonnerre. Spicy, with some intriguing white pepper notes, Olivier Bailly (the director of the domaine) says this will improve for at least three years. A wine to accompany food."
