The wines from Volnay are said to have a particularly distinctive delicacy. The Clos des Chênes is a steep vineyard with a high proportion of limestone in the south of the commune. It is one of the best 1er Cru sites in Volnay, the wines are characterized by sinewy strength and opulence, but never appear edgy.
This wine from the hands of Xavier Monnot shows a beautiful depth, it gives a silky palate and is remarkably long-lasting. Half of the vines were planted here in 1936 and half in 1978, so they have a remarkably high average age, which keeps the yield low and the quality high.
2019 was a vintage of excellent quality, but with only a very small harvest. The wines have a lot of power and structure and should mature in the bottle for a few years in order to show their full and, above all, great potential. In the meantime, you can drink the softer 2018s.
