This Beaune 1er Cru is made from Chardonnay vines from various 1er Cru vineyards owned by Domaine Chanson. It gets its name from the Bastion cellars, where Chanson has its wine production.
2018 was a pretty perfect wine year in Burgundy, the rainy spring brought enough water reserves for the following hot spell. The harvest began very early, with large quantities of perfectly ripe grapes being harvested. A blessing after the small harvests in 2016 and 17, as well as again in 2019.
This wine is very typical of Chanson's house style, the wood influence is rather subtle, the focus is on clarity and freshness, as well as very good concentration and a complex interplay of aromas. A finesse burgundy as it should be.
