The top vineyard Probstey in Saulheim has a slope of up to 35%, facing south. It is warm and therefore ideal for growing Pinot Noir. The soil consists of clay marl, limestone and yellow sea sand. The Probstey Pinot Noirs are characterized by a rather dark Pinot fruit and are very rich in substance, which is why this “cru” is aged in 60% new and 40% used barriques.
It is one of the best red wines in Germany and does not shy away from any comparison with great Burgundians, both in terms of quality and style, as the Thörle brothers strive for a very elegant and structured style that is highly valued internationally. 2019 was a very good red wine vintage with elegant and powerful red wines that can withstand prolonged storage.
