The wine called Kalterer See (lake of Kaltern) has an history with ups and downs, from a popular wine for tourists in the 1950s and 60s, to the thin red with nearly no color in the 80s and 90s, but in recent years, often back to quality if the yield of the Vernatsch grape is kept low, as here at Schreckbichl / Colterenzio . It has an independent character, is pleasantly light and has little tannin, after all it doesn't always have to be as concentrated and powerful as possible. A great lunchtime wine and ideal companion for a Tyrolean bacon or snack board.
