A quarter each of Syrah, Castelão, Aragonés (= Tempranillo) and Alicante Bouschet are the vine ingredients for this juicy red from Portugal. Ermelinda Freitas even gave it 6 months in wooden barrels made of French and American oak, which is certainly not a matter of course in this class.
The red Flor de la Mar has a bright dark red color and intense aromas of ripe red and dark berries, plus a fine note of Mediterranean spices. The taste is surprisingly opulent, at the same time smooth and with an attractive fruitiness and gentle tannins, followed by a long, rich finish.
