In the south of Chassagne-Montrachet is the 1er Cru Abbaye de Morgeot, which is adjacent to an abbey from the year 1150. The Domaine Berthelemot owns about an eighth of this location and produces a first-class white Burgundy that also ages for a long time can. Incidentally, the 2020 vintage is the last from the multi-year conversion phase to organic cultivation, from the 2021 vintage the winery is organically certified. This means that the 2020 was already produced according to organic criteria, but it doesn't say so on the label. The Chardonnay vines growing there were planted in 1970, 2006 and 2012, resulting in a successful blend of young fruit and the depth of old vines in the wine.

The 2020 vintage brought excellent wines, in an elegant and very clear style, despite the warm year. They are much more classic and finer than the warm 2019s with their sometimes quite high alcohol content. Stylistically, they are very rich in extracts, but also show delicacy and freshness. Can be stored for a long time.

The Abbaye de Morgeot 2020 from Domaine Berthelemot shows a fine aroma and is reminiscent of ripe citrus fruits and white flowers, paired with an elegant wood tone. On the palate it is fresh and mineral, with a precise structure and an impressive length. We recommend decanting this classy Burgundy if you want to enjoy it young.
