The Domaine Xavier Monnot was formerly known as René Monnier and was highly respected for its wine quality. After extensive renovations in the vineyards and in the cellar, Xavier renamed the domaine to his name from the 2006 vintage, having managed it since 1994. His quality drive is exemplary. What we like best is his statement that a vineyard has to be tended like a golf course!

The Folatières in Puligny-Montrachet is considered one of the best 1er Cru locations in all of Burgundy. The ideal south-east orientation, not far from the Grand Crus Chevalier-Montrachet, results in profound white wines with enormous storage potential, highly complex and with a lot of depth and depth. Incidentally, the name comes from folle-terres, i.e. crazy earth, since erosion was not uncommon here.

Here, too, Xavier Monnot owns very old Chardonnay vines, which were planted between 1959 and 1973. Together with the barren soil, this ensures exciting wines with plenty of mineral pressure and enormous depth. Depending on the vintage, around a third of the oak is new.

2018 was a great year with white wines full of charm and yet powerful minerality. They can be enjoyed young, but also age long and well. A collectible for connoisseurs.

The Wine Enthusiast awards the 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Folatières by Xavier Monnot 93/100, the 2019 94/100. Unfortunately, they did not taste the 2020 vintage. We would give it the 94/100, too.
