Michel Gassier's Nostre Pais is a traditional blend of grape varieties from the southern Rhône. 55% Grenache Noir, plus Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Cinsault, all organically certified. Michel pays attention to the best ripe and healthy grapes, but avoids excessive alcohol content so that the freshness in the wine is not lost. He is also careful when aging in barriques, only used barrels are used so as not to dominate the fruit. The wine also gets its structure from a partial whole-cluster pressing, with a certain proportion of Siele being pressed to obtain tannins.
2020 was an excellent vintage with the best harvest and a high degree of maturity, which is very accessible immediately after bottling. Black cherries, dark berries, cocoa and dried herbs are evident in the scent. On the palate it is dense and silky soft, the ripe tannins show a delicate bite and give the long finish the necessary corset. A Mediterranean charmer with power and depth.
