To the east of Saint-Emilion is the Côtes de Castillon, recently called Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux AOP. In 1998 Stephan Graf von Neippberg bought the beautiful Chateau d'Aiguilhe there and made it a model winery for this designation of origin. 80% of the 90 hectares of vineyards are planted with Merlot and 20% with Cabernet Franc. Aiguilhe produces a wonderfully juicy red wine, smooth, full and with substance. It is very easy to drink in its youth, but also matures very well, which we recently saw again with wines from the 1990s. You get a lot of Neippberg style here for a relatively small price.

The magazine Weinwisser writes about the 2018 d'Aiguilhe: "Dense purple with a violet edge. Ripe blackberry bouquet, chocolate pralines and cassis, behind roses and cassis drops. On the palate with firm tannins and good breed. In the aromatic finale with morello juice and wonderful spice. This vintage is as good as never! 18.5 / 20. "
