This Valpolicella Ripasso from the Fornaser family comes from the terraced single vineyard la Traversagna, which is next to the Monte Faustino vineyard. For the Ripasso, the must is mixed for a while with the marc of the Amarone in order to get its aromas and additional depth into the Valpolicella.
The Traversagna is certainly one of the very best Ripasso wines currently available. The wine is equipped with a grandiose density, has power, depth and a perfect balance. Many Amarones from other producers can't keep up. It may be that the asking price for a Ripasso sounds rather high, but for what is on offer here the price is more than fair.
Unfortunately, there are only a few reviews in the press about this class wine, if everything sells itself, you don't necessarily have to have it tested. Nevertheless, the high quality is attested by these two reviews of older vintages: www.Enos-wein.de: 4/5 stars for the Valpolicella Classico La Traversagna 2007 Superiore: Quote "dense, very nice ruby, nice fruity body, still slightly sandy tannin, lively, good wine." The 2012 vintage was rated 92/100 by the Wine Spectator.
