The first growth Königsbacher Ölberg is a direct neighbor of the famous Idig vineyard and has a comparable soil structure with tertiary limestone marl. Due to the high location on the Palatinate Forest there is a fine coolness in the aromas of the wines, the typical apricot and peach flavor of Mittelhaardt Riesling is present, but rather discreetly pronounced. The 2017er has a great grip and a lot of complexity in the very long finishl, a perfect balance and tastes very serious to sublime. A fantastic wine, that overshadows many of the Grosse Gewachse of other producers. Don't miss it!
James Suckling is euphoric and rates 95/100 points: Very deep and complex, but this is as sensual as it is intellectual with a mirabelle character and a tone of chalky minerals at the enormous finish. And only has 12.5 per cent alcohol! From biodynamically grown grapes. Respect certified. Drink or hold.
