The Hermitage la Chapelle is a great wine, a Syrah icon of the northern Rhone with cult status. A powerful and majestic red wine that can be stored for years to decades. Well-stored bottles from the 1950s or 60s can still be excellent.
La Chapelle is not a vineyard, but a brand name for the top Hermitage of Jaboulet, which is composed of the best grape material from different vineyards. There are rarely more than 2000 cases a year.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate rated the 2017 vintage as a barrel sample with euphoric 97-99 points, with the potential to reach the magical 100 when the wine is fully matured.
