Chateau Filhot is a 2eme Cru Classé in the sweet wine AOP Sauternes. It was founded in 1709 and now comprises 350 hectares of land, of which 62 hectares are planted with vines. The Filhot used to be a specialty because it was matured without barriques until the late 1990s. This special route (in our eyes a wrong path, Sauternes needs oak) has now been abandoned, so the Filhot today corresponds to the typical taste profile of a high-quality Sauternes.
The sweet wines of Bordeaux are now rather rare companions at the table, which is a shame, as they are suitable for a variety of dishes and often open up new culinary horizons. Just try this wine to:
- foie gras (the classic)
- scallops
- a good roast chicken
- Sushi
- blue cheese
- Desserts (almond cake or fruit cake)
