The Savagnin grape variety is the king of the Jura. The top wines of the region are made from this non-fragrant Traminer variety, especially in the oxidative style, such as the Domaine Berthet-Bondet here with the Côtes du Jura Savagnin. This wine spends three years under a flor of yeast in 228L barrels without the loss being replenished during this time. This leads to a unique taste with strength, freshness, complexity and the typical note of oxidation, which is otherwise only known in a similar form from sherry. However, Jura is livelier, has more acid and less alcohol than its Spanish relative.

This excellent wine is something like the little brother of the Vin Jaune, but despite its parallels in taste it is also quite unique, more like a wine than an aperitif, also an excellent accompaniment to a menu . Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of Jura wines.

In Robert Paker's Wine Advocate, the 2016 Savagnin by Berthet-Bondet received a very good 92/100 points. Taster Luis Guiterrez writes, quote: "There is more volume, clout and complexity in the 2016 Côtes du Jura Savagnin than in the tradition from this same vintage. Here, the Savagnin achieved a little more ripeness, and the wine matured under flor for three years. It has notes of aromatic herbs, citrus, curry and mushrooms, with pungent flavors and a bitter twist in the finish. This is an approachable style of the traditional flor Savagnin from Jura. 7,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2020 ."
