The grapes of the Grenache noir (37%), Syrah (29%), Mourvèdre (27%) and Cinsault (7%) varieties were handpicked for the Chateauneuf rouge from la Nerthe and then sorted. Only healthy and perfectly ripe berries are used for this wine. After fermentation, the wine was aged in large wooden barrels for 12 months.
2016 is considered to be one of the best vintages in Chateauneuf-du-Pape of all time. The dark red color already indicates the density of this wine. Cassis, black tea and dried flowers can be found in the fragrance. On the palate it is rich, the very long finale shows the beautiful tannin structure, which gives the wine the perfect balance and ensures a long shelf life.
Jeb Dunnuck awards 94/100 and writes: "Deeply colored, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a blend of 37% Grenache, 29% Syrah, 25% Mourvèdre, and the rest of Cinsault and other permitted varieties. With classic notes of currants, ripe black cherries, new saddle leather, and peppery herbs, it's rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, with a pure, focused style that's going to age gracefully for 15-20 years. It's one of the finest classical cuvées I can remember. "
