The Carmenere grape variety only plays a minor role in its original homeland of Bordeaux, but it has gained a high reputation in Chile because it ripens perfectly in this even climate.
The Vina Sutil winery, appreciated for its excellent wines at amazingly low prices, ages its Carmenere Grand Reserve for 12 months in French and American barriques are made. It grows in the San Jorge vineyard, halfway between the sea and the Andes. The vines are planted tightly to drive the roots down, which is said to help minerality in the wine.
Aromas such as black currants, cherries, chocolate and coffee are perceptible in the intense fragrance. On the palate it is juicy, on the one hand soft and then with a nice structure in the background. Tastes great and costs little!
Food suggestions: ratatouille, Peruvian lamb stew, grilled tuna, pasta with pesto, vegetable stew.
No substances of animal origin are used in production, so the wine is vegan.
