Château de Carlmagnus takes its name from a legend that Charlemagne built a fortress when he passed through Fronsac. Presumably this has nothing to do with the pretty chateau that is the headquarters of the winery today. Only 12,000 bottles of wine are produced here in normal years, which are 100% Merlot. This creates a soft and opulent Fronsac, which gets its flavor and structure through aging in barriques. You can usually drink it early, as only a few tannins stand in the way of enjoyment.
The Guide Hachette writes about the 2015: "This 100% Merlot appears in a beautiful, intense garnet color and offers a flattering bouquet of ripe fruits, combined with liquorice and spicy notes. In the mouth it is fleshy, rich and elegant, supported by firm and fine tannins from a suitable barrel aging."
