With the simple number 904, which commemorates the merger of La Rioja Alta with Bodegas Ardanza in 1904, the winery labels one of its two Gran Reserva top wines. Vineyards with over 60-year-old vines are used for this blend, 90% is Tempranillo and 10% Graciano. The wine is aged for 4 years in used oak barrels, the aroma of new wood is not desirable.
2010 was an excellent vintage that met the quality requirements to release a 904 Gran Reserva. A classic Rioja with excitement, complexity and a great maturing potential. The press is equally euphoric, 98/100 by James Suckling and added to his top 100 list of the year and 97/100 by Tim Atkin. Unquestionably a great Rioja.
