The Guimaraens Vintage Port goes back to the 1950s when Fonseca introduced it as the second wine of the Fonseca Vintage Port. Stylistically, it is somewhat softer than its big brother and matures earlier, but comes from the same three wineries. Usually it is available in vintages that just barely missed the required quality and style for a Fonseca Vintage. 1991 was such a vintage, which other companies also declared for their top product.
SARAH AHMED, THE WINE DETECTIVE descripes the 2001 Guimaraens: "A grippy, tight nose and palate yet one senses a massive seam of black and red fruits beneath its solid but ripe tannins. Bags of potential here."
