The Guimaraens Vintage Port goes back to the 1950s when Fonseca introduced it as the second wine of the Fonseca Vintage Port. Stylistically, it is somewhat softer than its big brother and matures earlier, but comes from the same three wineries. Usually it is available in vintages that just barely missed the required quality and style for a Fonseca Vintage. 1991 was such a vintage, which other companies also declared for their top product.
Robert Parker : "The 1991 Guimaraens is the most impressive bottle I have tasted of this offering. The opaque purple color, and sweet, copious aromas of cassis, licorice, and flowers, are followed by a supple. rich, full bodied, precocious tasting port that is already easy to drink. … It is extremely impressive because of its sumptuous texture and rich, pure fruit."
